Stephen Ministry at St. John
Stephen Ministry Leaders yearly prepare willing people to be Stephen Ministers. The training is a 50 hour course, preparing people to care for others in the Name of Jesus Christ. After Stephen Ministers are commissioned, they are assigned a care receiver and meet with them weekly. Twice monthly, they do peer review (called supervision) of the work and ministry being carried out with their care receiver. When work with that care receiver is done, there is closure, and the Stephen Minister goes on to another person in need of spiritual and emotional care.
We say of Stephen Ministers that they are “Jesus with skin on”. They minister through God’s Word and intercessory prayer to help the care receiver through the issues he/she is facing.
Stephen Ministry helps the congregation’s ministry in a number of ways. First, it reassures the pastoral staff that hurting folks are being cared for. Secondly, it provides caring folks with a dynamic caring ministry to provide the message of Jesus love and hope to His people.
