St. John Lutheran Worship

Here at St. John we offer two types of Christ-centered Sunday morning worship experiences:

  1. Majestic Grace: Traditional Worship Service: 8am and 9:30am (click for More)
  2. NewSong: Contemporary Worship Service: 11am (click for more)

What should I expect at Majestic Grace (traditional) worship?

Majestic Grace offers a corporate worship experience that encompasses all the traditional aspects of Lutheran worship.  This liturgical service offers a worship experience that is led by a pastor and worship leader. Majestic Grace includes music from the Lutheran Service Book – as well as other great hymns of the faith.  Orders of worship vary week to week from the hymnal’s Divine Service to other creative and engaging ways in which we express our praise to God through hymns, hymn festivals, prayer and preaching. Music is led by the pipe organ and other instruments.

Bible-centered messages will challenge, encourage and help you apply God’s word in your daily living.  The music for traditional worship includes classic hymns along with new songs and hymns of the faith that relate to the message of the day.

Adults and children of all ages attend the traditional worship services.  Dress for this service is mostly business casual but ranges from casual to suits and dresses.

Music at Traditional Worship

Voices of St. John Choir

The purpose of the Voices of St. John Choir is to honor God by singing His praises and to lead the people of God in worship and celebration in the Worship Center, occasional special services and concerts during the year.  Soloists and ensembles from the choir also sing for services.

The Voices of St. John choir rehearses Wednesday evenings from 7:00–8:45 pm in the Worship Center beginning in September.  Requirements for participation in the choir include a love for singing and a dedication to leading worship. No audition is required but you do need to be able to match pitch. That means you need to be able to sing on key.  Ability to read music is an asset but not a requirement.  For additional information on the Voices of St. John choir, contact Diane Bahn, Choir Director, at dianebahn@yahoo.com.

Kids of the Kingdom Choir

Children ages 4 - 3rd grade love making a 'joyful noise' to the Lord.  They meet Saturday mornings starting at 9:30 for about one hour in the Worship Center.  The children usually sing in praise to God twice a month, on special occasions and events, and have at least one 'field trip' to a Senior Citizens Center during the period from September through May.  New members are always welcome.  Betsy Dossman, Director of Music Ministry, directs the Kids of the Kingdom choir and welcomes new members at any time of the year.  Contact her at bdossman@stjohn-lutheran.net.

Youth Choir

This choir was organized in 2006 and is not yet named.  Youth from 4th-8th grade meet on Saturday mornings from 8:30 - 9:30 in the balcony of the Worship Center.  They also raise their voices in praise to God twice a month, occasionally sing with the Kids of the Kingdom choir, share their gift of song at Senior Citizens Centers, and on special occasions and events. The youth choir is rapidly growing and new members are enthusiastically welcomed! Contact Betsy Dossman, bdossman@stjohn-lutheran.net.

Instrumentalists

Instrumentalists of all ages enhance and enrich worship at St. John.  If you play an instrument and wish to offer your gift of music in praise to God, please contact Betsy Dossman, bdossman@stjohn-lutheran.net.

What should I expect at NewSong (contemporary) worship?

NewSong: Contemporary Service: 11 am Sunday Mornings - Our NewSong service is a contemporary service that offers the same worshipful experience as Majestic Grace but in a different atmosphere.  An exciting blend of contemporary and upbeat music ushers you into the very presence of the Lord in an uplifting, yet relaxed setting.  These services are led by a pastor, worship leader, praise band and singers. Use of multi-media and other creative elements engage the worshiper.

Bible-centered messages will challenge, encourage and help you apply God’s word in your daily living.  The music for NewSong worship includes contemporary Christian music, praise choruses, new hymns and an occasional classic hymn in a contemporary setting, all relating to the message of the day.

Adults and children of all ages attend NewSong worship.  Dress for this service is mostly casual but ranges from business casual to suits and dresses.

CONTEMPORARY WORSHIP TEAM

Do you have a heart for serving God with your talents? If you would like to play an instrument in the worship band or sing in one of the vocal teams we would love to hear from you.  An audition and interview are required.  Or are you interested in helping with the technical details—sound system, PowerPoint, etc.?  If so, contact Rusty Collins at rcollins@stjohn-lutheran.net  For more information or to schedule an audition, please contact Diane Bahn, Interim NewSong Worship Director at dianebahn@yahoo.com.

Whatever the style of worship you prefer, our great God is worthy of nothing less than our best. When God's people join together to praise him joyfully, we experience in a small way what heaven will be like, where the saints and angels join in praising God forever. Until we join them we know that our noblest work is to adore him.
